Hydrating Honey Mask
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup honey
Combine yogurt and honey and mix until well blended. Apply to face and leave on for five minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water. This mask gently moisturizes without being heavy or greasy.
LUSCIOUS AND DELICIOUS LIP SCRUB!
Ingredients
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, then massage onto lips. This works best when you actually scoop up the sugar and rub that part. Feel free to apply the juice of the scrub on your lips and let sit for a couple of minutes! All of the ingredients are super moisturizing for lips, especially the honey!
DIY Eco Hairspray
What you'll need

You can mix it up however you like, use all three {lemons, limes and oranges} together or just mix lemons and oranges. If your hair is on the dry side you might want to only use oranges. If your hair is very dark {either naturally or you color it} you would probably want to avoid the lemon as it could lighten your hair, especially if you will be out in the sun.
Steps
1) Cut into slices.
2) Combine slices in a pot with two cups of water.
3) Boil on low heat until about 1/2 of the liquid is left {about 30 minutes}.
4) Strain and let cool.
5) Pour into spray bottle and store in the fridge. This spray will last about a week, since there are no preservatives.
*Optional add a few drops of a complimenting essential oil. My favorites are vanilla and coconut, both go very nicely with oranges. But you might also try lavender or cinnamon, anything will do that you like.

Coconut Oil Hand Cream
Great for extra dry skin. Nice to rub on after washing dishes or digging in the yard.
Supplies needed:
5 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
1 1/2 tablespoon almond oil
15 drops lemon essential oil
15 drops lavender essential oil
1 – 2 tablespoons grated beeswax (less for softer cream, more for firmer cream)
Method:
Fill the bottom of a double boiler with water and bring to the boil. In the top, combine to beeswax, coconut oil and almond oil. Allow to melt and stir to combine. Add the essential oils and stir again.
Pour into container and allow to cool completely before closing.
Makes approximately 3 1/2 ounces.

Notes: I have successfully made this recipe without a double boiler and just used a heavy saucepan. It needs to be on very low heat.
When grating beeswax, be sure to use a grater you no longer need for cheese! The beeswax is next to impossible to wash off (I keep one that is especially for beeswax).
If you are unhappy with the consistency of the cream, re-melt and add more beeswax. If making in warmer weather, use extra beeswax, since the coconut oil liquefies when the temperature is above 76 degrees.

Easy Sunburn Soothers
Choose one of the following sunburn soothers:
• Plain yogurt or sour cream
• Buttermilk
• Tomato juice
• Witch hazel
• Aloe vera gel
• Chamomile tea
• Apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon diluted in 1 cup water)
1. Use a clean cotton cloth or spray bottle to apply any one of the above ingredients directly to your skin; or add one of these soothers to a tepid bath.
2. If you use the yogurt, sour cream or buttermilk, be sure to rinse your skin after 20 minutes, as these milk-based soothers can spoil.
Cucumber Aloe Body Mask
2 cups chopped, peeled cucumber (those big lunky ones from the garden are perfect!)
¼ cup aloe vera gel
2 T whole milk yogurt
Combine everything in a food processor, and blend until smooth. Store in the refrigerator, up to a week. Smooth over burned skin, and let sit til warm. Rinse, pat dry.
Natural Sunscreen
3 tbsp. grated beeswax
3 tbsp shea butter
4 tbsp coconut oil
3 tbsp. aloe vera gel
3 tbsp. herbal tea (lavender or calendula is best)
1/2 tsp. borax powder
Take beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil and melt it in a double boiler. (Do not boil). Now warm the aloe vera gel, tea and borax powder in a separate pan until the powder is mixed well with the other 2 ingredients. Mix it with the melted oil and butter. Whisk properly until you get a creamy texture. Store it in an airtight jar and keep it refrigerated.
You can refrigerate it for up to a month if you have not used any preservative but if you use 5-6 drops of grapefruit seed extract (natural preservative), it will last more than a year. You can take it out of the fridge 10-15 minutes before applying.

Mama’s Belly Butter
This recipe is adapted from the Stretch Mark Cream in Natural Beauty at Home
by Janice Cox (page 86).
To make 4 ounces (I usually divide this between a couple of 2 oz jars) you will need:
1/2 cup cocoa butter
2 tablespoons wheat germ oil
2 teaspoons sesame seed oil
2 teaspoons apricot kernel oil
2 teaspoons vitamin E oil
4 teaspoons grated beeswax
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (optional)

Measure all ingredients, except vanilla, into a heavy saucepan. Warm mixture over low heat until cocoa butter and beeswax have melted (two to five minutes). Stir well.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, if using. Another option would be to add a few drops of essential oil such as those mentioned in this post.
Cool briefly then pour into jar(s). Leave lid off and allow to cool completely (this should take about an hour). It will look very runny at first:

The butter will begin to thicken and harden immediately. It will look something like this after 10 minutes:

3-5 drops lemon essential oil
3 drops orange essential oil
3 drops bergamot essential oil

Or make a mix of a few of these to add up to ½ cup)
2 cups sugar
20 drops lime essential oil
3-5 drops lemon essential oil
3 drops orange essential oil
3 drops bergamot essential oil

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
Method
- Mix all ingredients, except for olive oil, in a large bowl.
- Gradually add olive until you reach the desired consistency.
- Put in a pretty jar! And add a label.
I love to make my labels using the funky fonts from Kevin and Amanda’s Fonts for Peas. They are awesome.)
- Scrub on desired area and rinse off with water. (Is especially useful to aid in the sloughing of dead skin…back of arms, hands etc.)
- Enjoy the refreshing fragrance of lemon and lime.

Lemony Foot Scrub
Adapted from the foot scrub recipe in Organic Body Care recipes
Makes enough for two applications.
Ingredients
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup oats
2 tablespoons sea salt or table salt
6 drops of lemon essential oil
Method
Place oats in a coffee grinder, food processor, or blender.

Blend/grind until oats become a powder:

Place cornmeal, ground oats, and salt in a bowl.

Mix together to blend. Then add essential oil and stir to distribute throughout.

If giving as a gift, place in a jar or zip lock bag. If using immediately, follow the directions below.
To use: Place a ½ cup of scrub into a bowl and add water a little at a time (and stir),until a grainy paste forms.
Rub paste onto feet, paying extra attention to any rough areas.
Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Finish by applying moisturizer or body oil to your feet.
Rinse tub immediately to be sure the cornmeal doesn’t swell and clog up the drain. (We wouldn’t want that!)
If you decide to give this gift in a ziplock bag, I suggest taping the instructions to the bag (so they don’t get lost):

Then put the ziplock in a brown paper sack or something similar and add some embellishments. I’m sure you could come up with something prettier than I did!
Water Marble Tutorial.
Supplies: orange stick or toothpick, shot glass or cup (the smaller the circumference, the less polish you end up wasting), room temp. water, nail polish, tape (optional, but it helps with the clean up)
I like to begin by prepping my nails with base coat and one coat of polish. Here I used China Glaze Innocence for a nice neutral base.

Steps:
1. Fill your cup with some warm or room temperature water. If the water is too cold, the nail polish will seize up.
2. Choose the polishes you want to work with; keep in mind the opacity of the polish you are using, if its too sheer, it might not look right.
3. I like to begin with the lightest color. Load up the brush and let a big drop of polish fall into the water. Continue with the other colors until you have a few concentric circles of polish in the water.
4. Using the toothpick or orange stick, drag through the polish from the edge toward the middle. Continue to drag the stick through the polish until you find a design that you think looks pretty.
5. Optional: tape around the edge of the nail to protect your finger from becoming covered with nail polish. Scotch tape works perfectly for this.
6. Holding your finger horizontally, dip your fingernail into the glass, making sure it is completely submerged.
7. Use the toothpick/orange stick to trace around your finger, gathering up all the unused nail polish in the glass.
8. Lift your finger out of the glass, and let dry before taking the tape off.
9. Continue with your other nails until you have a full set of beautifully water marbled nails.
10. Slick on your favorite top coat and Voila! All done!

INGREDIENTS:
-
1/2 cup Shea Butter
-
3 TBSP Olive Oil
-
-
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
METHOD:
Begin by filling a 1/2 C measuring cup with shea butter, making sure to pack it down tightly. Transfer the shea butter to a small pan, and gently heat, using the double boiler method, until the butter is nice and soft. You don’t want to melt the butter, but just soften it to make it easier to work with.
Next, transfer the shea butter to a stand mixer, and beat on high speed until it has a whipped consistency and doesn’t feel grainy when rubbed between your fingers. This will take around 3-4 minutes. It should look like firm whipped cream when it is done. (If you think your tempted to eat it now, just wait till later!)
Combine the olive oil and melted coconut oil together in a small container with a spout. SLOWLY pour the oil into the bowl of shea butter, while beating on high speed. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides as you go.
Once all of the oil is incorporated into the shea butter, continue mixing on high speed for 1-2 minutes until it is nice and fluffy and looks like a soft, delicious whipped cream. If desired, you could also add some essential oils now. I usually don’t, because I like the smell of just the coconut oil and brown sugar, but you could experiment with adding some if you would like.
At this point, you really could just stop, and use this as an after-shower moisturizer. I have done this before, but my favorite way to use this is as an in-shower moisturizing body scrub. It is just so nice, and makes your skin feel AMAZING! (Have I already said that? Please excuse me if I’m repeating myself!)
To turn this into a body scrub, you just need to add something that will exfoliate. This step is very flexible, and there are many things that could be added here. My favorite thing to use is brown sugar. It gives it a wonderful smell, and it does a great job at exfoliating. Some other things that you could consider using instead of sugar would be salt, coffee grounds, ground up oats, etc. Anything that will provide you with a gentle scrub can be used in place of the sugar. You could even do a combination of exfoliators if you would like.
So add the brown sugar (or whatever you decide to use) to your whipped butter and gently mix it in. (If you use brown sugar, make sure that there are no clumps of sugar before you add it to your bowl. It will be a lot easier to mix in this way, and you will not end up with any big sugar clumps in your exfoliator.)
1/2 cup Shea Butter
3 TBSP Olive Oil
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1. Put in one spoonful of pigment (about the size of a pea) in your silicone baking cup. Use a tiny measuring spoon or a plastic stirrer spoon. Don’t forget to wipe your spoon off with a tissue.

2. Drip in some clear polish. Just hold the brush over and let it drip, about 20 drops, swirling the pigment and the polish together. Your clear polish will get muddy with pigment over time, so use a cheap clear polish. If you’re a seasoned pro, you can just pour the polish in.

3. Keep swirling away until the polish is mixed with the pigment. It will generally be a little thicker than regular polish. Add more clear polish if you want a thinner mixture.

Voila! It dries fast, so paint it on your nails ASAP. I’ll talk about how to make a bottle of pigment polish later, but in truth, I rarely make a whole bottle. I usually just make enough for one manicure. I get bored with color easily, so a whole bottle of one color is a waste for me. Also, pigments tend to sink the bottom of the bottle and can get glunky. But onward to the finished mani (that I just smudged, whoops).

Here’s one coat (over the bright yellow I had on before!) It comes out in a satin finish, not matte but not shiny.
